The Australian Government has committed $700m per annum for the next 20 years under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to support Australians who have permanent and significant disability.
One aspect of NDIS support is in the provision and funding of housing, called Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA). This refers to accommodation for people who require specialist solutions due to varying disabilities and will stimulate investment in the development of new high quality dwellings for eligible NDIS participants, in the following levels:
Improved Liveability
Housing that has been designed to improve ‘Liveability’ by incorporating a reasonable level of physical access and enhanced provision for people with sensory, intellectual or cognitive impairment.
Robust
Housing that has been designed to incorporate a reasonable level of physical access provision and be very resilient, reducing the likelihood of reactive maintenance and reducing the risk to the participant and the community.
Fully Accessible
Housing that has been designed to incorporate a high level of physical access provision for people with significant physical impairment.
High Physical Support
Housing that has been designed to incorporate a high level of physical access provision for people with significant physical impairment and requiring very high levels of support.
We support the provision of SDA to allow all Australians to live in appropriate housing which maintains quality of life and security for the occupants.
Steven Bayer is currently involved in the provision of SDA housing in NSW and Queensland, working with developers in the design of approved accommodation and also NDIS Providers who work with occupants of housing and recipients of NDIS funding.
Steven is also a qualified SDA Assessor who can review and certify that housing meets the requirements of the SDA Design Guidelines.
