Alchemy Consulting was engaged to lead the concept design for a significant regional development on the south coast of NSW. A long standing client of Director Steven Bayer appointed the team to deliver design services for this complex project on a prominent CBD site.
The development is an important addition to the town and wider region. It includes retail space, visitor accommodation and permanent housing, with up to 90 units in total. The project will deliver much needed sustainable and accessible accommodation to support the new regional hospital, along with affordable housing for the community. It will also bring meaningful investment to the area, both during construction and through an increase in residents, while activating the street with cafes and retail tenancies.
Working alongside specialist consultants, Alchemy Consulting partnered with the owner to navigate a range of planning considerations, including flood risk, visual impact and existing infrastructure. The design response carefully balances these constraints with the broader vision for the site.
The overall scale of the development is reduced by breaking it into a series of smaller buildings with varied heights. A considered palette of materials provides articulation and a human scale, while referencing the local character.
