Alchemy Consulting recently worked with clients to design a multi generational family home in a regional setting. The project centres on the subdivision of long held rural land, with the goal of creating a forever home to be shared across generations.
The clients worked closely with Director Steven Bayer to define the key requirements of the home. A strong focus was placed on supporting large family gatherings, while also allowing for distinct zones and future expansion as needs evolve.
A master plan for the property allowed the full development to be carefully considered from the outset, particularly within a constrained building envelope. Future stages of construction were planned early to ensure a cohesive long term outcome.
Through site visits, the clients and Steven explored the landscape in detail, considering orientation, climate and views across the sloping property. These insights helped shape a design that responds naturally to its setting.
The final design brings together a series of zones to support everyday living, visitor access and recreational uses such as vehicle restoration and music teaching. These are balanced with flexible spaces that can accommodate both large gatherings and more private moments.
The result is a home that can feel open and expansive when needed, yet warm and intimate at other times. A considered palette of materials and colours grounds the design in its rural context, creating a place that will support the family for generations.
